The Promotion of Motive in Musical Learning through Buddhist Psychological Activities: A Case Study of Duriya Music Center, Phetchaburi Province

Abstract

This is a quantitative research with the objective to study the promotion of motive in musical learning through Buddhist psychological activities: a case study of Duriya music center, Phetchaburi province. Each kid was born in the midst of different expectations as family consisted of father, mother and relatives. When each kid started to enter school, they had to learn more about things around them. Concentration or Samàdhi in learning considered as an important thing. If kids had good concentration, it would be beneficial to learn more about things around them. Concentration was an ability to choose important incentive together with an ability to maintain an interest in that incentive long enough namely, while there were many incentives from many things such as the sound the car, the sound of the teacher or sound of friends, kids must choose which one they would be interested in and must also keep their interest in that thing long enough. Concentration was the matter of brain capability which differed in each kid. Younger kids would have less capability than older kids but their brain would be developed gradually as they grew up.

            The research samples were 20 students of Duriya music center, Phetchaburi province whose age were between 7-15 years old. The sample size was determined by Krejcie and Morgan’s table with a statistical significance of .05. The research sample was conducted by a simple random divided into two groups with different approach: 1) the performing of activities that promoted the motive in musical learning of students and 2) the non-performing of activities that promoted the motive in musical learning of students. The students had to practice once a week, 10-15 minutes for each time, in total of 4 weeks.

            From the study, it was found that the achievement of motive in musical learning through Buddhist psychological activities after participating in the activity of Path of accomplishment (Iddhipàda IV) was higher than before the participation in activity in all 4 topics: 1) Will (Chanda) before the activity an average was at 3.33, after the activity an average was at 4.76, 2) Effort (Viriya) before the activity an average was at 3.33, after the activity an average was at 4.76, 3) Thoughtfulness (Citta) before the activity an average was at 3.33, after the activity an average was at 4.76, and 4) Investigation (Vãmamsà) before the activity an average was at 3.33, after the activity an average was at 4.76.

            From the analysis of data using statistics, it was found that before and after the participation in the activity of Path of accomplishment (Iddhipàda IV) overall significantly different at the statistical level of .00. The achievement, whether by the observation of the researcher, teachers and parents or the overall observation, was consistent with the research hypothesis.

1)      The creation of the activity of Path of accomplishment (Iddhipàda IV) for the development of the promotion of motive in musical learning through Buddhist psychological activities

2)      After the participation in the activity of Path of accomplishment (Iddhipàda IV) for the promotion of motive in musical learning through Buddhist psychological activities, students were found to have better motive towards the musical learning with a statistical significance of .01.

Group activities helped in the promotion of motive in musical learning of students resulting students in self-contentment, knowing themselves, having effort and concentration, and starting to plan more about their lives.
